Poems & Artwork

a poem by Mari Richards

We are Many.

      I stand alone
among many faces.
      Dark Secrets
Kept in Lonley places.
      I stand alone
With my pain & sorrow.
      Must surrender my past
for hopes of tomorrow.
      Women join together
for a future to gain.
      Women different
but the same.
      With eyes wide open
for the first time I see.
      I no longer stand alone
for we are many.

OUR STAR IS RISING

We are a Royal Kingdom, being Unique
We are the remnant from a world most bleak
Now, that we have dropped down from sub-light
Let’s rig our sail for Solar Wind quite steep
We are stuck in transit, engine not right
Bypassing Jupiter’s gravity goes oblique
A rainbow planet up ahead, we triangulate
Our forward velocity is nine hundred m.p.h.
A landing party goes to the hatch and waits
The shimmer of polarized light has it’s breach
Within the passing of the second hands gait
Our party radios back aboard here within reach
A planet oh so blue, for me for you, great
The American flag is firmly embedded, teach
A sampling of the air is taken, celebrate
Cold clear air on a world so far, within reach
The flag ripples in the wind, it is so great
Our star surely is rising, it’s a peach
Earth is a blue dot on a horizon of late
The ship gives up it’s people to our reach
